The Chicago Bulls swept the Toronto Raptors in a 110-93 game on Wednesday for their seventh consecutive victory, but at a cost. Their center Joakim Noah will be off the court for the next two months. He began the game with a sprained thumb, and appeared to be doing just fine, scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. After the game, however, he admitted that he had torn a ligament and would require surgery.
“It’s tough not playing at a high level,” he told reporters. It’s hurting… I can’t practice. I have to get right and get back to this team. I’m going to miss playing. It’s frustrating because I feel we have a chance to be really, really good. I know that in the long run this is what needs to be done.” He added that the goal is to get the surgery done now, so he will be fit for the playoffs.
The best strikeout pitcher in baseball passed away at age 92 from leukemia on Wednesday. Robert Feller, or “Rapid Robert”, formerly of the Cleveland Indians, had a fastball that went over 100 miles per hour. Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said that he is “saddened by the loss of the Hall of Famer Bob Feller, truly one of the game’s all-time great pitchers.” He added that “Bob was one of the first major leaguers to enlist following Pearl Harbor and served our country for nearly four years during the prime of his career. Bob Feller was a great pitcher, but he was first and foremost a great American.”
